Free the BowlTM Winners

First Prize "The Super Bowl Influence"
Jeremiah Golden, age 18, North Walpole, NH

Jeremiah is 18 and lives in the small town of Walpole, New Hampshire with his parents, two little sisters Mikaela (8) and Naomi (11), and the family black lab, Phoebe. He has been mostly home schooled and is currently taking classes for graphic design at a nearby high school tech center in Vermont. His interests and activities include anything "artsy" including playing music, graphic and web design, photography, and more. Jeremiah plans to attend school for video production and media.

Jeremiah says, “I entered the Free The Bowl contest because I've seen some of the negative effects that underage drinking has had on others, and with such a large amount of it happening, I wanted to try to help reduce the problems the best that I could. Free The Bowl is such a great cause because the media is very influential, especially to this generation. Advertising alcohol to one of the biggest youth audiences possible is just asking for trouble!"

Second Prize "Free The Donkey"
Jonathan Reed, age 17, Benicia, CA

Jonathan Reed is a 17 year-old junior at Visions in Education school in Benicia, California.   The middle child of two, he enjoys the small town atmosphere, but hopes to travel in the future. Jonathan goes to Community Bible Church and loves to serve God in every way he can.  He also works as a lifeguard at the American Canyon pool and really appreciates getting paid for something he enjoys. Jonathan also likes making movies (as you can see), but is not yet sure what career he wants to pursue. However, he’s certain that he can find something he loves and will get paid for it.

Jonathan says, “I really think that it is important to justly inform the youth of all the facts about alcohol. That it may not be as cool, glamorous, and fun as they make it out to be. If we let the beer companies control the advertising, especially during programs that are as popular for youth as the Super Bowl, then all we can expect is for the kids to think that beer is cool, fun, and harmless. I simply don't think that's right.”

Third Prize "Bring It Back"
Eric Shaughnessy, age 18, Arnold, MD

Eric Shaughnessy is an 18-year-old student currently at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Maryland. He lives with his family as the middle child of six.

He is keenly interested in the power of graphic design to convey a message. The message behind Free the Bowl struck him in particular since alcohol's influence in the Super Bowl is only growing stronger every year. He feels that since this negative influence is directly fueled by beer ads, a logical solution must be to either decrease, or entirely eliminate their presence.
